7 Ways to Keep Ruidoso Beautiful: Protecting the place we love.

With your help, we can work together to safeguard nature, tackle litter, and give back to this beautiful mountain village that fuels our passions and explorations.

Stick to the path.

Stay on the marked trails. Recreational trails are designed to give visitors maximum exposure to natural features and the environment. Going off the beaten path could mean you trample on protected or endangered plants, become lost or injured far away from help.

Leave no trace.

Don’t litter. Take trash with you when you leave. Trash overflowing the receptacles becomes litter that is a public health hazard, harmful to wildlife, and attracts predators. For more information about how to reduce your physical impact, check out Leave No Trace, a program committed to sustainable exploration of the outdoors.

Think carefully about fires.

95% of wildfires are caused by people—and can be prevented by people, too. Do your part to keep Ruidoso safe by keeping these wildfire prevention tips in mind before you leave home as well as on the trail to make for an enjoyable outdoor experience in Ruidoso. Respect wildlife.

Wildlife viewing is a Ruidoso favorite for locals and visitors alike. Check out these tips for being a wildlife-friendly visitor for more information on how to view Ruidoso wildlife responsibly.

Think green.

Don’t leave lights on in your hotel room. Don’t leave water running. Explore on foot or bicycle. Resist the urge to take home natural mementos. Cut back on your consumption of plastic water bottles. If you’re not sure about the tap water, consider buying large jugs of water and use it to fill re-usable bottles.

Use eco-friendly travel accessories.

At home and away, environmentally-conscious products like a re-useable shopping bag, silicon straw, and lunch box for takeaway or picnics go a long way to reducing problematic plastic waste and public litter. Ruidoso shops carry a wide variety of these products.

Support local.

Supporting the local economy (shopping, lodging, attractions, restaurants, adventure outfitters, etc.) keeps revenue available for environment protection, resource efficiency, infrastructure investment, and community programs that keep Ruidoso at its best for your next visit.
