Plan Your Ruidoso Adventure: Important Lincoln National Forest Wildfire Safety Guidelines
Lincoln National Forest Implements Stage 1 Fire Restrictions
The Lincoln National Forest is now under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, beginning March 10, 2025, to ensure public safety and protect forest resources from the risk of wildfire. With dry conditions persisting, forest managers urge visitors to familiarize themselves with these new regulations to enjoy the outdoors responsibly.
What Do Stage 1 Restrictions Mean?
Campfires, charcoal grills, and wood stoves are only permitted in designated campgrounds and picnic areas that provide fire rings or grills installed by the Forest Service. Open flames, including campfires, are strictly prohibited in dispersed camping areas. Visitors are encouraged to use propane-fueled stoves or lanterns, provided they are cleared of flammable material within three feet and equipped with safety switches. Smoking is allowed only inside enclosed vehicles, buildings, or designated recreation areas. Chainsaw use is permitted, but always follow safety guidelines.
